Pathfinder vs 4th Ed

Ok so here’s my take on Pathfinder vs 4th Ed. For the record I like 4th Ed, I know I know I am in the minority but I have my reasons. I will list them here…

Pathfinder

  • Detailed Rules
  • Balance
  • Feat/Skill Based
  • Very Open
  • Lots of Customization
  • Doesn’t Reinforce Role Playing

DnD 4th Ed

  • Less Detailed Rules than Pathfinder
  • Abstracted Healing Rules
  • Fixed Session Lengths
  • WoW like Abilities
  • Abilities Based
  • Subtly Reinforces Role Playing

Overall
I think both systems have their merits. If you are a dyed in the wool 3rd Edition play its going to be a hard pill to swallow to make the jump to 4th Edition. However if you are new to the game 4th Edition makes things alot easier to digest for the neophyte. So ultimately it’s all about what you are looking for in a game and your comfortability with crunch. Both systems when well run are quite fun.
